A Hindu secondary school has identified a site for its permanent home on playing fields previously earmarked for a new sport facility.

Avanti House School, which moved to its temporary home in Stanmore last year, has indentified Whitchurch Playing Fields, Stanmore as a possible new home.

The school moved to the site of Peterborough and St Margaret’s (PSM), in Common Road, Stanmore, last summer.

Governors at the school have described the proposed Wemborough Road site as perfectly situated for the school's core community.

If the proposals eventually get the go ahead the secondary school would move to the site and would have a total of 1,260 pupils after it reached its full capacity.

Leader of Harrow Borough Council Susan Hall has said a feasibility study of the site will be carried out soon and if plans are submitted and approved, the school could open on the site from January 2016.

In 2012 Harrow Council's then Labour administration gave its backing to the Whitchurch Consortium's plans to build a new sports complex and leisure facility on the site.

The proposals to develop the fields have been controversial with people living nearby.
