The Mayor of Harrow joined members of the borough’s police force at a special carol concert.

The event, organised by Harrow Police, featured the Harrow Apollo Choir, pictured in white jackets, and the Metropolitan Police Service Choir at St John the Baptist Church in Sheepcote Road yesterday afternoon.

Mayor Nana Asante joined members of the emergency services and representatives from the military, local schools and Harrow Council for the event.

Seats were packed as traditional hymns filled the church throughout the festive concert, which took place at 4pm.

This was a really lovely start to the Christmas season , it was great to see so many people at the service and I was surprised and delighted to find that one of our local police officers has the voice of an angel.

This is the first concert of its kind, initiated by the Borough Commander of Harrow,Chief Superintendent,Simon Ovens. We hope this is the first of many to follow annually. What a success!!

Such a warm welcome coming into the Church on a cold, blustery evening.Warmed the cockles of your heart to see so many had come to be together and join in the Carol singing.

This Church which is centrally placed,in the heart of Harrow was packed to capacity. Many from our diverse communities attended, making it a rewarding experience.

It was lovely to be greeted by our Police officers and have refreshments deftly handed out by our Volunteer Police Cadets. They worked hard and deserve much thanks for their hospitality.

It was a real treat to hear officer Gail sing "Ave Maria " and one other.hymn.I had a lump in my throat and guess many were equally moved.

She has a simply stunning voice and charmed everybody. The singing by both Choirs was excellent and the Bag piper playing was icing on the cake!

Thoroughly enjoyed the Christmas Carols which followed many short, pithy lessons relevant to the birth of the Saviour. Felt transported to my Boarding School days! You could feel the spirit of Christmas loud and clear.

So many uniformed officers from all our services joined in to make this a truly successful event. It was a befitting start to the Season Of Peace and Goodwill.
Congrats to the Met Police for bringing this off so successfully. We should invite The Metropolitan Poliice Commissioner and the Mayor of London next year.

The Bishop of Willesden gave a short and sweet talk and was delighted to see the manner in which our Metropolitan Service Police had reached out to engage with our local community.

The Mayor of Harrow,Cllr Nana Asante,Leader of Harrow Council Cllr Susan Hall,Borough Commander Simon Ovens,Lt Gen John Purnell and Margaret Purnell,Deputy Borough Commander Ben Honey,Headmaster Jim Hawkins of Harrow Boys School were among many dignitaries in attendance.

Looking forward to another Carol Concert by our local Police in 2014.

MERRY CHRISTMAS AND A VERY HAPPY AND SAFE NEW YEAR.
God bless.
