A decision to grant a lease to a charity supported by the Mayor of Harrow will be reviewed by councillors this evening.

Harrow Borough Council cabinet granted the lease of a property it owns in Methuen Road, Edgware, to Flash Musicals, which helps disadvantaged young people get started in the performing arts.

The organisation is one of Harrow Mayor Cllr Nana Asante’s chosen charities for her year in office but the executive decision to grant the lease has been called in by members of the Labour group.

They argue there was inadequate consultation with stakeholders prior to the decision, a lack of evidence on which to base the decision and the granting of the lease was contrary to policy framework.

Flash Musicals has used the site in Methuen Road since 2002 and the charity was established in 1997 as a voluntary youth organisation.

Members of the call-in sub-committee will examine the decision to establish whether the decision should go forward or whether it should go before cabinet again.
