A bank worker hopes to help raise tens of thousands of pounds for charity as he makes his way to the tallest mountain in the world.

Dilan Kerai, of Kenton, will be one of 26 Santander employees trekking 119km through the Himalayas to Everest base camp next month in aid of cancer charity CLIC Sargent.

The team is aiming to raise £80,000 for the charity to help and support children and teenagers with cancer as well as their families.

Mr Kerai said: “I’m really looking forward to the trek. I know it’s going to be tough work so I’ve been in putting some hard hours training for it.

“However, it’s for a really good cause, so the blood, sweat and tears will be well worth it.”

The bank hopes to raise £800,000 by the end of 2013 to will help fund the charity’s Homes from Home service for an entire year.

CLIC Sargent operates eight homes near hospitals which allow families to stay for free during their child’s cancer treatment.
