The leader of Harrow Borough Council took part in action with police to tackle pubs and restaurants operating without a licence.

Councillor Susan Hall joined council licensing officers and Harrow police last week in a night-time operation to ensure restaurants and pubs are properly licensed to sell alcohol.

One restaurant, which cannot be named for legal reasons, was served with a closure order after being suspected of selling alcohol without a licence and an investigation has now been launched.

Councillor Hall said: "Our goal is to deliver a cleaner, safer and fairer Harrow for our residents, and it is therefore vital that everyone operates within the rules.

“Pubs which operate outside of the licensing laws and anti-social behaviour from drunken customers can blight the lives of people living nearby – and we will continue to do all we can to stop such behaviour.

“For the vast majority of pubs that do abide by licensing laws and act responsibly, we will continue to offer them the support they need to help their businesses flourish.”
