An MP has welcomed the announcement that schools across the borough will soon be receiving extra funding as part of a government initiative.

Harrow East MP Bob Blackman has welcomed the news schools will be geting money from the Government’s 'targeted basic need' programme to help add extra places for pupils.

Schools which are earmarked to receive the money under the programme include Belmont School, Bentley Wood High School, Whitchurch First School and Nursery, Kingsley High School, Whitefriars Community School and Woodlands School.

The Conservative politician said: “We are blessed with some wonderful schools in Harrow and this funding will help them to open their doors and ease the pressure locally on places for pupils.

“I am very pleased that our local schools have been recognised and given the support needed to expand.

“Once again, this demonstrates a great level of commitment to improving education and supporting our schools by the Government.”

The targeted basic need programme aims to deliver up to 74,000 new school places at more than 300 schools across the country.
