A police officer was attacked in the street yesterday as she attempted to search a man.

Officers from Brent police in undercover clothing were on patrol in Kingsbury when they saw two men acting suspiciously on Kingsbury Road at about 8.20pm.

The officers attempted to search the men but one began to fight with the female officer and punched her in the face.

She managed to take him to the floor but the man then overpowered her and attempted to strangle her with his hands.

The man, 22, was eventually arrested for assault of a police officer and after being searched was found to be in possession of cannabis.

The man remains in custody as police continue their enquiries and are appealing for information from members of the public who may have witnessed the incident to get in contact.
