Harrow's new mayor has celebrated the work of the emergency services and armed forces as part of her first official duties.
Councillor Nana Asante took part in the annual civic service at St Mary’s Church, Harrow-on-the-Hill on Sunday June 23.
At the service, Cllr Asante led a procession to Harrow School where she met members of the community and representatives of the police and fire brigade.
And yesterday the mayor took part in an annual flag raising ceremony for Armed Forces Day, attended by the Royal British Legion and Police Cadets.
The service, outside the Civic Offices in Station Road, was one of hundreds which took place around the country.
Cllr Nana Asante said: “I was honoured to take part in the annual civic service, and it is always a pleasure to meet with members of Harrow’s community.
“I was also delighted to be able to raise the flag to commemorate and give thanks to all of our armed forces - past, present and future.
“I hope that both of these traditions will continue for many years to come.”
Fred Gosling, from the Harrow branch of the Royal British Legion, said: “The parade was very impressive this year and there was a good turnout.
“I think this ceremony is very important for the community and it’s nice to see everyone come and pay their respects to the forces who give their lives for us all.”
