Food based puns delivered to camera have put a Harrow student in the running for the best job in the world.

When he decided to apply for one of six ‘best jobs in the world’ being advertised by Tourism Australia, Chris Henson went the whole hog.

The job he was applying for was Taste Master, a role which involves travelling around Western Australia sampling food.

So Mr Henson filmed an application using a variety of props and improvisation to illustrate he was passionate about applying for the role. Wine bottles explained that he was the first “port of call” for the job and nuts showed he was nuts about food.

If the puns aren't the best, they belie a genuine love of food.

“I’m quite passionate about dinner parties and have an epicurean streak,” explained Mr Henson, of Elm Close, North Harrow.

And the job opening came just in time for the 23-year-old, who is in his final year of studying English Language and Literature at Leeds University.

“I’m in my final year and I didn’t know what to do. I was going back and forth applying for jobs, being rejected and ignored,” Henson said.

“Then I heard about the competition via facebook. It was a day before the application deadline and I thought, well, why not?”

Some 350,000 applicants from 196 countries have applied for six jobs offered by the Best Job in the World competition run by Tourism Australia.

At the end of April, Mr Henson was told that he was one of the 25 candidates for the Taste Master job who had been shortlisted for the next stage.

Never expecting to get so far, Mr Henson has since been busy “keeping up with the other candidates” blogging about food, uploading videos and getting supporting statements in Leeds to meet tomorrow’s deadline for the next stage. If he’s successful, he will be invited to a final assessment in Australia in mid-June.

“It’s a lengthy procedure, he said. “But it’s definitely exciting.”
