On Sunday,28th April we were invited to a Thanksgiving Reception in honour of the current Mayor of Harrow,Cllr NIZAM ISMAIL,at the Harrow Central Mosque. He will be handing over charge to the incoming Mayor later this month.Prayers were offered by the Imams of various mosques in Harrow.

The event was well attended and a number of distinguished guests from Harrow and other London boroughs turned up.Lt Gen John Purnell,Hon Alderman Keith Toms,MP Bob Blackman,Leader of Harrow Council,Cllr Thayya Iddaikadar ,Deputy Mayor of Harrow Cllr Nana Asante,Chief Executive Michael Lockwood,Tory Party Leader Cllr Susan Hall,Labour Party Leader Cllr David Perry, and many more Councillors and Community leaders came to give thanks and join in the prayers. The Harrow Inter-faith Council was led by their Chair, Punitha Perinperaja and offered their own prayer.Age UK Chair,Avani Modasia,Harrow Scouts Chair,Bernard Archer and a host of others also graced this annual community event.

It was really good to have our new Borough Commander,Chief Superintendent, Simon Ovens happily mingling with Harrovians and getting acquainted with the locals.

This was a happy occasion with performances from young Muslim boys and girls reciting from the Holy Quoran.Mayor Nizam Ismail kindly went around shaking hands and thanking everybody personally which was much appreciated.

A buffet was also served. All in all this was another reminder of the diverse groups comprising the population of Harrow. The Reception hall was spacious and has only been opened recently. It is an excellent community resource.

Sincere thanks and good wishes from the Harrow Police & Community Consultative Group(HPCCG),as well as its members, to Cllr Nizam Ismail as he approaches the end of his term as the Mayor of Harrow.
