I am not one to moan,

But roadworks give me nightmares, I’m afraid to be alone!

They haunt my every journey, there is no way to escape,

They used to be a rarity, but now, for goodness sake!

They catch me if I’m turning left or if I’m turning right!

They plague me in the morning and they plague me when it’s night!

They just appear from nowhere like a supernatural being,

Are they brought by goblins, are they fantasies I’m seeing?

I know there is work to do, repairing to be done,

But often there is no-one there, just traffic lights and glum!

Sometimes come the workers, digging holes and working hard,

Next day they have disappeared, tarmac is just scarred.

Three sites I have seen today, with traffic trailing back,

Not a workman anywhere, did they all get the sack?

These were all within about a mile of where I am,

For those who have to go to work, it must be such a sham.

I know we must suffer while roads heal, that has to be,

But could you please try not to take away our sanity!
