Watford midfielder Etienne Capoue has completed a move to Spanish club Villarreal.

The Frenchman flew out yesterday and completed his medical today before finalising the move.

The 32-year-old initially looked set to leave the club during the summer transfer window, but a deal with Valencia, that would have seen him link up with former Watford boss Javi Gracia, failed to materialise.

 

However, the player has now departed and completed his move to Spain for an undisclosed fee, believed to be in the region of £2million.

Capoue joined the Hornets from Tottenham Hotspur in 2015 and has made 181 appearances in total since then, scoring 14 goals.

He was named Player of the Season at the end of 2018/19 when Watford reached the FA Cup final and achieved a best league finish in 32 years.

A statement on the club website said: "The Hornets thank Étienne for his efforts over the past five-and-a-half years and wish him well for the future."
