Nathaniel Chalobah was delighted to get back on the scoresheet as Watford brushed aside Preston North End at Vicarage Road.

However, the midfielder insists the result and the performance are much more important than his personal goals tally.

After a couple of uninspiring draws, the Hornets finally seemed to come together to produce the type of display that others might have been expecting from them since the beginning of the season and the former Chelsea midfielder told the club website that he always believed in his side's ability.

However, he knows there is a long way to go still and told his teammates to not get carried away just yet.

“Goals are something I wish to add to my game,” said Chalobah. “But that doesn't really matter. It's about the result and working hard for the team.

“The manager has been working on us in training and we have been trying different systems and I've always said the team was going to come good.

“It was always going to click at some point and we were going to get in our flow. We are doing well right now, but let's not get too excited. We've had one result. Everyone is working hard in training and working towards a goal and this to get back into the Premier League.”

Despite the last two performances being below par for Watford, Chalobah was encouraged by the fact they did not result in defeats.

While is hoping for more victories like yesterday's to come in the future, he knows that points are important however they are gained.

“The most important thing in this league is, when you don't play well, not losing the game,” he said. “The points all add up at the end and we've managed to hang on in some games this season when we didn't deserve a point or anything. These kind of victories, when the team clicks, are even more satisfying. We've got to carry on and keep working.”

One thing that could help the Hornets in their push for promotion is the return of fans next weekend.

2,000 supporters will be permitted to attend a match at Vicarage Road for the first time since February.

“It's been the big miss for us,” said Chalobah. “The fans are like our 12th man. Our fans are incredible and it will be nice to have the crowd here and give us that bit of enthusiasm. I'm so happy they are going to be back in soon and look forward to seeing them here.”
