Troy Deeney joined a very select club featuring some of the most famous names in Watford history when he came off the bench to make his 400th league and cup appearance for the Hornets in yesterday’s 3-2 victory over Coventry City.
The 32-year-old replaced Andre Gray in the 74th minute of the win and in doing so become only the 11th player in the club’s history to reach the appearance landmark.
The club captain, who made his debut as a substitute in a 3-2 victory at Norwich City on the opening day of the 2010/11 season, has gone on to become the fourth highest scorer in Watford’s history in the past decade.
Deeney needs to make only four more appearances to move level with Wilf Rostron in tenth on the club’s all-time list, while Johnny Williams’ total of 419 could also be well within his sights this season as the Hornets seek to return to the Premier League at the first attempt.
