Watford sporting director Cristiano Giaretta has revealed that Napoli are one of several clubs interested in signing Gerard Deulofeu.

The winger has made no secret of his desire to play at a higher level following the Hornets' relegation from the Premier League and, speaking to CalcioNapoli24, Giaretta revealed that the Italians were interested in the former Barcelona man.

However, the newly appointed director suggested Deulofeu would not be available for a cheaper price, even with the coronavirus pandemic affecting the transfer market.

“There are several rumours around the boy. We are evaluating," he said.

“There are important clubs on him, including in Italy, Spain and England. Napoli can also be included among those interested.

“There is a range of top-level players who are less affected by the coronavirus pandemic, I believe Deulofeu is part of this range and his evaluation was and remains high. Strong players remain strong, lower level players may be affected more.”

Giaretta hopes Watford not only get promoted, but do it as champions, but said there would have to be a change in the way they conduct their business if they are to achieve that aim.

With players returning from loan, and some bigger names already departing in the transfer window, the club is assembling a squad of both youth and experience for the busy season ahead.

“Our goal is to go back to the Premier League. As far as the team is concerned, I must say that we immediately have an important core in our squad, among young and experienced players,” he said.

“We will work with a group of important young players. It will be a good mix and I think it’s the key to winning the Championship.

“There will be some important transfers, some players are of a different level in the Championship: it is clear that after the relegation, something will have to change."
