Father of Watford owner Gino Pozzo, Giampaolo, has said that he thinks the Premier League is rushing back too soon.

In an interview with Associated Press, Pozzo said England was still a few weeks behind Italy where they are not yet ready to resume sporting events.

“The conditions are not right yet,” Pozzo said about the Premier League.

“The virus is still advancing rapidly there, at least compared to here. They’re a few (weeks) behind us.”

Pozzo, who owns Udinese, also feels Serie A is some way off being ready to resume, despite the league aiming to start again on June 13.

"At the minimum, we need a month to have a proper preparation like we do every year before starting the season,” he said.

“Whereas we’re being super cautious about the virus, then we’re going to be totally careless about everything else?"

Turning his attention back to Watford, Pozzo said his son had achieved everything he initially set out to do with the Hornets, but that they now want to progress even further.

He also spoke of the mutually beneficial relationship between his son's side and his own that regularly sees players move between Watford and Udinese.

"We achieved all of our goals,” he said. “And we want to continue.

“We work in synergy and it helps both clubs improve. Because when you have an excess player on one team you send him to the other squad. It helps.”
