Harrow Borough were knocked out of the FA Trophy at the first qualifying round stage after a 2-0 defeat to AFC Sudbury.

Billy Holland and Sean Marks got on the scoresheet for the hosts, who will travel to Worthing in the second qualifying round as a result of causing this upset.

Borough have been struggling for form lately, losing nine of their last 11 games in all competitions, but will have still been confident of getting a result against a side struggling in the Isthmian League Division One North, a step below Borough’s Southern League Premier Division South.

Sudbury came out the livelier of the two sides and Hafed Al-Droubi was the busier of the keepers early on, saving an effort at the far post.

Harrow settled into the game and had opportunities of their own in the opening half. Chinua Cole had two shots blocked, with Excellence Muhemba’s rebound from the latter bouncing back off the post.

Sudbury took the lead two minutes into the second half when Borough failed to clear properly from a long ball into the box, and Holland then picked up possession before stroking past Al-Droubi.

That seemed to knock the stuffing out of Harrow and they were let off numerous times before Sudbury doubled their advantage when Marks glanced home a header after the visitors again failed to clear their lines.

There was little to no response from Harrow, and in fact Sudbury could be disappointed that their margin wasn’t greater, particularly when Al-Droubi was forced into a save by Marks.

Harrow return to league action tomorrow night when they make the long journey down to Weston-super-Mare for a 7.45pm kick off.
