Andre Gray says Watford are not putting limits on their ambitions this season

The Hornets remained eighth in the table after Gray came off the bench to score the winner in the second half at Vicarage Road, but they now have a four-point gap over the ninth-placed Toffees, having played a game less.

The next aim for Javi Gracia’s men is a place in the quarter-finals of the FA Cup when they make the short trip to Queens Park Rangers on Friday and the striker says the Hornets are putting no limitations on their ambitions this season.

“We just want to test ourselves and see how far we can go,” Gray told the club website after Saturday’s win. “We’re going to try and win every game.

“We’ve got the cup game next week and it’s a great opportunity for us. The boys that are not playing and the boys that are playing, I think we all want to go as far as we can this season.”

Gray’s winner was his first goal in the league since the 1-1 draw at Fulham in September and he admitted to being frustrated at times, having lost his place in the starting line-up the following month and also being out injured for a spell.

He said: “Personally I feel my goals to start ratio is quite good but coming off the bench can be difficult at times, especially with tight games like they are, and when you get 10 minutes, 20 minutes here and there it’s always difficult. But I’ve got to be ready as always, keep my head down, not get too frustrated and try and get back in the team.”

The 27-year-old also praised his teammates for standing firm as Everton sought to get back on terms in the closing stages, but acknowledged the Hornets did not help their cause at times.

He said: “I think everyone was getting a bit frustrated, we were giving away silly fouls and we need to learn from that because it could cost us. But credit to the boys at the back, I don’t think Foz (Ben Foster) has had to make a save today as he usually does and it just shows how well the back four have done and kept the likes of Richarlison very quiet.”
