Watford's out-on-loan goalkeeper Daniel Bachmann helped Kilmarnock climb to second in the Scottish Premier League with a victory over Rangers last night.

The Austrian has been in impressive form this season as part of a Killie side that has been a surprise package north of the border.

He conceded early on, as former England striker Jermain Defoe scored just 12 minutes into his debut.

Two goals either side of half time saw Killie come back and snatch the win.

Earlier this month Bachmann told the Observer that he wants to push for the title and said he believes Kilmarnock have what it takes to challenge at the top.

He said: "It's been pretty unusual in Scotland this season. Celtic are usually pulling away at the top and that is not the case, not just with Rangers being close to them, but we're one point behind both and that’s pretty incredible really, if you look at the setups and budgets as well.

"Of course we can cause an upset, we have a very good team and we are playing very well. If we keep up the points record like we did at the start of the season it’ll be very tough to beat us."

Meanwhile in Brazil another young Hornet developing with another club is Joao Pedro, who provided an assist as Fluminense drew with Volta Redonda.

The 17-year-old was given a chance to play after a court action regarding another former Watford player, Richarlison, has stifled Fluminense's transfer opportunities.

The club is being sued by fellow Brazilian team Real Noroeste, from whom they signed Richarlison, for not paying them an agreed sell-on fee when he moved to Watford.

All of Fluminense’s transfers have been blocked until they pay Noroeste what they owe and until then, they are unable to register any of the players they have signed during the 2019 transfer window.

As a result Flu fielded a team full of youngsters, including Joao Pedro, for their opening game of the season last Saturday.

Joao Pedro will join up with the Hornets in 2020.
