Norwich City captain Sebastien Bassong will miss tonight’s League Cup clash with the Hornets after picking up a hamstring injury against Aston Villa at the weekend.
The defender is undergoing scans to reveal the extent of the injury, but City boss Chris Hughton has ruled him out for selection.
Alongside Bassong on the treatment table is summer arrival Ricky van Wolfswinkel, who will be rested after picking up a slight knock.
Looking to take advantage of the Dutchman’s absence is Gary Hooper, who returned from injury to make his first appearance in a Norwich shirt in Saturday’s 1-0 defeat to Aston Villa.
Reports suggest that the team will be shuffled, but not to any great extent, with Mark Bunn coming in for England squad member John Ruddy. Hughton has confirmed that young prospect Josh Murphy, who starred in City’s FA Youth Cup winning side last year, will be involved.
The Canaries go into the game looking for a cup run to galvanise their stuttering league campaign. Hughton’s men have won just one of their five Premier League games so far this season and sit one place outside of the relegation zone in 17th.
City defeated Bury in a 6-3 thriller to reach the third round. Johan Elmander and Leroy Fer, two more summer arrivals, were on the scoresheet that evening and should be involved tonight.
