A CHARITY is bridging the generation gap by seeking pensioners in the borough to perform alongside schoolchildren in a play.
Age UK Brent, based in Craven Park Road, Harlesden, is joining up with Claremont School, in Claremont Avenue, Kenton, to create a short play for the second year running to promote good relations between young and old people.
The charity plans to perform the play in May or June, after receiving a donation of £8,910 from The Gannett Foundation, the charity arm of the Harrow Times, last month.
Last year, sixth-form students from the school and a group of older performers performed the drama Remember Me, which explored the issues facing an elderly woman unable to manage in her own home.
The charity’s volunteer development coordinator, Ken Luxon, said: “Most of the older performers had not acted in public before — some had never even spoken in public, but perform they did.
“This company was short-lived, managing only three performances, but everyone involved was inspired by the experience and is eager to do more.
“This year, the company with new students from the school, is planning to do a longer piece and perform it to more audiences.”
Mr Luxon said the school had not yet decided what would be performed, but urged people aged 60 and above, to take part.
Rehearsals are due to start this month on Friday mornings at Claremont School.
