AN Enfield man claiming to be a bodyguard to the Cypriot president has been slapped with a fine for using a fake disabled parking badge.

Pananyiotis Ioannou Papageorgiou, of Grafton Road, admitted using the dodgy permit six times to park in Tudor Way, Southgate, between November and May at Enfield Magistrates Court.

But he claimed the conviction could have cost him his job protecting the rich and famous including the president of Cyprus, an office currently held by Demetris Christofias.

Councillor Chris Bond, cabinet member for environment, said: “Papageorgiou could be the Queen of Sheba’s personal bodyguard for all I care he has no right to rob disabled people’s rightful parking spaces in Enfield.

“We have now secured146 successful prosecutions since we starting clamping down on blue badge cheats, and I can guarantee that we in Enfield will continue to crack down on them to ensure genuine disabled drivers and residents take pride of place in Enfield.”

He was handed a fine of £1,585 alongside six other motorists snared by Enfield Council.

Susan McCormack, of Myrtle Close, East Barnet, used her husband’s badge five times in Crown Lane between January and May, while working at Blain Firmin estate agents, in Southgate Circus.

She was ordered to pay £2,590 and disqualified from driving for six months.

Mumtaz Ahmad, of Oakway, Southgate, used her husband’s blue badge 27 times while she commuted to central London on the tube between November and May and was slapped with a £915 fine.

Rafiou Barry, of Margaret Road, Stoke Newington, was caught using a lost badge, which he said he had found, to park in Cowper Road, Upper Edmonton on May 20, and was ordered to pay close to £800.

Mehmet Senoglu, of Ladysmith Road, Enfield, admitted using his son’s badge to park in Little Park Gardens while the youngster was at school.

His wife had recently also been slapped with a fine for misusing the same badge and he was ordered to cough up £640.

Hasan Aksin, of Lawrence Avenue, Palmers Green, used his wife’s badge on May 20 in Fore Street, Upper Edmonton, was fined £146.
