PUPILS at a South Harrow school will be on television tomorrow night for Children in Need.

Teachers found tigers, bats and butterflies peering back at them when they took lessons today as Heathland School, in Eastcote Lane, raises money for the charity appeal.

Six lucky children will be on BBC 1 at 8.45pm tomorrow night and Havni Gohil and Shiantae Samuels, both ten and in Year 6, will be among the group presenting a cheque from Barclays Bank.

Havni said: “I found out about it on Wednesday because my teacher gave me the letter and she didn't tell me anything about it. Then my mum read the letter and I said 'what, I didn't know anything about this'.

“I was running round the house saying 'I'm going to be on TV'. My parents said 'oh my God' and gave me a high five.”

Shiantae said: “I'm very excited. My teacher said you are going to be selected to go on the BBC. I was happy. I didn't have anything to say because I was too excited.

“We are going to be holding a cheque for Children in Need.”

The day is one of a series of projects the school runs to raise money for charity and pupils have also been collecting presents, including teddy bears, to pack in shoe boxes and send to disadvantaged children in Mozambique.

The children also held a spellathon, where they are sponsored for each word they get right.

Chris Spruce, headteacher at the school, said pupils chose the face painting day as a way of raising money after a One World Week held last year where the activity proved popular.

He said: “When we asked the school council what they would like the activity to be they said face painting so we agreed.

“Some children have come with their faces painted already and have made a donation, some are making a donation for the teachers and staff, who are really good at it, to paint their faces at lunch time.

“Everyone's very excited, our children really enjoy supporting good causes.”
