A GROUP of friends kept a vigil at the scene of Jason Greene's murder as police launched an appeal for witnesses today (Wednesday).

Jason Greene, 29, from Kenton, Harrow, was shot just after 8.30am on Tuesday after picking his children up to take them to school.

DCI Scott Wilson from Operation Trident said: "Jason Greene came out of the house and put his two kids in the car. He got into the driver's side. Two gunmen came from both cars and opened fire on the driver's side of the car. We believe two shots were fired. We believe one gun did the firing, but gunmen were from both cars. Both of the cars left the scene, both going in different directions."

One car was described as a silver VW Golf convertible, registration number Y384 CGK. It had been reported stolen.

The second car was a green Vauxhall Vectra, registration N409 YOG. Both cars were found abandoned in a car park off Cool Oak Lane.

DCI Wilson said: "We believe a man in a white van was in the car park at that time, and we are appealing for him to come forward. Anyone who was driving in the area at that time, if you saw these cars, please come forward."

Police are keeping an open mind surrounding the motive of the shooting, and want to hear from anyone in the area that may have seen something, including parents who were taking their children to school at the time of the shooting.

DCI Wilson said: "This was a callous killing in front of two young children. These people did not have regard for other people in the area."

Friends who were holding a vigil at the scene of the murder said Jason was a very caring' man.

Unwilling to give their names the youths were visibly upset by the events. One told the Harrow Times: "He was well respected in the area, and he was a very nice guy."
