BREAKDANCING, popping and street dance are a better alternative to drugs, school pupils in Harrow will hear.

Dance for Justice, made up of young people from the borough, will tour a string of high schools showing how fulfillment and inspiration can be found without turning to crime.

Two former Nower Hill High School pupils, Savan Shah, 20, and Daniel Heimler, 21, lead the group and will be talking to their audience about their own life experiences.

Mr Shah said: “We've been dancing for about three years and we've all been to these schools in Harrow. Dancing has changed our lives and our attitude.

“It's made us achieve in life and now we're going back to these schools to give the message that it can inspire you.

“A lot of kids are into drugs and we were going in that direction but dance has helped us stay away.”

The project has its roots in a series of events where they performed in the past, including an anti-knife crime event at Nower Hill.

Mr Heimler said he was also inspired by studying law to try and tackle some of the social problems that lead to crime.

He said: “I realise that when you are at high school it seems that your life can either go down the right way or people start taking drugs like cannabis and possibly harder drugs.

“I've known people who have gone down these routes and I want to help stop that, even if I can inspire just one person out of just one school we go to.”
