POLICE chiefs are in talks with two groups over planned protests outside a Muslim peace conference at Wembley Arena.
The Met has promised to develop an “appropriate policing plan” to deal with the demonstrations being organised by the English Defence league (EDL) and Unite Against Fascism (UAF).
EDL is staging its protest, on Saturday, June 26, in response to the Al-Khair Peace Conference being held that day at Wembley Arena.
It claims the conference is organised by “preachers of hate”, and is recruiting members via the Internet to join the demonstration.
UAF has vowed to oppose the EDL demonstration, labelling them “fascists”, and in the past the two groups have clashed violently.
A police statement said officers would be stationed around the protesters to “strike the right balance” between the right to demonstrate and the safety of people in the area.
