A BIRD loving doctor has been left heartbroken after his treasured pet parrots were stolen by burglars.

Dr Percy Seneviratne came down for breakfast on Monday, June 7, to find his prized African grey parrots Billy and Rosie had gone missing.

Overnight, thieves smashed into a custom-made outhouse and stole the birds while Dr Seneviratne and family were asleep in their Rayners Lane home.

The 77-year-old Northolt GP said: “It is just like a bereavement. In the first couple of days I couldn't believe it had happened, but then I started to blame myself.

“It is very difficult to handle. If they had died, I would have accepted it but for them just not to be there is very hard.

“Every morning I come down to have my breakfast, I go to make toast and start to cry.”

Billy, 45, and Rosie, 27, have been in Dr Seneviratne's family for nearly 30 years, and he said they are like relatives more than pets.

He has been putting posters around the area to help find the parrots but has so far had no joy.

It is believed they were snatched between 2am and 5.30am, and police investigating have appealed for anyone with information to come forward.

Witnesses can contact Harrow police on 0300 123 1212, or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
