A HARROW teacher hopes to take a snappy route to the top of the photography world after an exhibition showcasing her work later this month.

Rosalind Schogger, of Gerard Road, exhibits at Watermans gallery in Brentford from June 25 to July 3. The show is called Shifting Boundaries, an apposite title which reflects the radical changes in Rosalind's life over the last few years.

Rosalind, 54, had been a full-time teacher for more than 25 years but still harboured the unfulfilled dream of becoming a photographer. Six years ago she decided to take the plunge, risking job security to study photography and multi-media at the University of Westminster, Harrow Campus.

She said: "I enjoyed teaching but photography was always my passion, even as a young child. As you get older your priorities become clearer."

Rosalind wanted to continue working part-time at Priestmead School, in Kenton Lane, and fit her degree around this. However, when her employers of nine years told her this was impossible, she resigned.

She explained: "I knew it was a gamble that could go wrong, but I had to try. Fortunately, I haven't looked back since."

The mature student went on to gain a first-class honours degree, before embarking upon a masters. This exhibition marks the culmination of the course and two years hard work.

She said: "I'm nervous but hope the exhibition will go well. It's difficult to label my art. It's not about people or landscapes but generated from ideas. This makes it more conceptual or abstract."

Rosalind will present a collection called Beneath the Surface, which explores concepts within conflict.

She now works part-time for Brent Education Authority but would love to concentrate all her energies on photography in the future.

She said: "Becoming an art photographer would be fantastic, but it's very difficult to make money from."

Shifting Boundaries runs from June 25-July 3 at Watermans, 40 High Street, Brentford between 12pm-9pm.

Rosalind is also holding a workshop for children aged 10-13, entitled Thinking Creatively on July 1 between 5-6pm.

Adults can attend another workshop called Handling Conflict in Our Lives on July 3 between 2pm and 4pm. Both are free. For more information call the box office on 020 8232 1010.
