I read that a waste disposal plant is being considered for Harrow on the Kodak site.

Incinerators can give off harmful dioxin chemicals which can cause cancer and birth defects, so they should not be sited in densely populated residential areas.

This is a newer version of this technology but it would still need constant checking to ensure it wasn’t breaking pollution guidelines.

Tiny pollution particles called PM 2.5s from incinerators penetrate deep into the lungs and cause breathing problems. The authorities have no reason to be complacent about health as certain cancers have tripled in recent years. Pollution can cause oestrogen-mimic chemicals which disrupt hormones and are thought to be a cause of the rise in breast and prostate cancer in recent years.

Michael Ryan (BSc) gathers statistics on the rise in cancers and birth defects in areas near UK incinerators.

If West London Waste Authority can just burn rubbish, there will be even less incentive for more recycling.

Where are the Government measures to get supermarkets to stop excess plastic packaging and to make all packaging recyclable? Think of all the plastic waste from just one trip to the supermarket.

Councils should recycle more commodities, including all plastics, and end their “bin it and burn it” wastefulness. We need to leave natural resources for future generations.
