A FUNDAMENTAL review of fire safety in Brent housing has begun in response to the Camberwell tower block fire which killed six people.
Brent Council and Brent Housing Partnership (BHP) have begun to review all council property and housing association estates, looking for potential fire risks and health and safety hazards.
The action is in response to letters from John Healey MP, minister for housing, and London Fire Brigade, asking all councils to assess their properties for dangers.
It comes after the fire in Camberwell on July 3, which claimed the lives of six people trapped on the 11th floor, and prompted calls for a inquiry into tower block safety.
A review of tall buildings in the borough was already underway prior to the Camberwell fire, and the conclusions are expected on Friday.
Any recommendations will be dealt with as a “first call”, and urgent work will be dealt with under the repairs budget, said BHP chief executive Helen Evans.
