A MAN and a woman have been jailed after being caught running a cannabis factory in a quiet residential Wembley street.

Son Quang Nguyen, 46, and Huy Thi Tran, 39, were both jailed for 18 months yesterday at Harrow Crown Court for production of cannabis.

The convictions follow a raid by Barnhill Safer Neighbourhood Team on May 21 on a semi-detached house in Wentworth Hill at 6.45am.

Officers, working with one of Brent's fast response teams, found more than 130 cannabis plants in the house, along with drug growing equipment.

Tran and Nguyen were arrested inside the house during the raid, and remanded in custody.

Tran admitted growing the class B drug at Brent Magistrates Court at the end of May, and Nguyen, who denied the charge at the first hearing, pleaded guilty yesterday.

Detective Constable Stuart Coutin, from Brent Police said: "This is an excellent result which has led to a criminal organisation that has been involved in the production, conservation and distribution of cannabis being disrupted.”

The raid happened after information about the cannabis factory was passed to local officers, and they were able to act fast in conjunction with the response team.

This way of working, linking the Safer Neighbourhood Team with a 24-hour response team, was being trialled at the time of the raid, and is due to be replicated across Brent later this year.
