THE sentencing of two sham builders who conned an elderly woman from Harrow Weald out of £120,000 has been suspended for three weeks.

Gary Davies, 21, from Isleworth, and Tony James, 23, of no fixed address, pleaded guilty to false representation last month.

Between September 2007 and May 2008 they hounded an 82-year-old woman for fake "unpaid" bills for building work she had had done three years previously.

Claiming they were from Plas Tex Developments, the pair said she had not paid VAT and would need to hand over vast sums of cash to avoid going to court.

The largest cheque she gave the men was for £56,000.

The fraud was only detected when the bank stopped a cheque in May last year and told her to call the police.

Davies and James will both be sentenced at Harrow Crown Court on July 24.
