A DOCTOR at a trust which runs Northwick Park Hospital says he is “delighted” after being honoured by the Queen.

Guduru Gopal Rao, head of microbiology and infection control at North West London Hospitals NHS Trust, was given an OBE in the Queen's Birthday Honours.

He said: “I am surprised and delighted to receive this honour. I would like to thank all my colleagues at the trust and also at Lewisham Hospital, where I worked previously.

“I would not have received this accolade without their support, generosity and expertise.”

Fiona Wise, chief executive of the trust, said: “We are incredibly proud of his royal honour, which he thoroughly deserves.

“We are lucky to have him as a valued member of the Trust and his dedication and commitment are already helping us reduce our infection rates.”
