RESIDENTS fighting plans for a 19-storey skyscraper are calling for support ahead of a key meeting.

Developer Dandara wants to build 410 flats in three blocks at the old Post Office site, in College Road, Harrow Town Centre.

However, the Campaign for a Better Harrow Environment claims the blocks will obscure views of the spire of St Mary's Church, in Harrow-on-the-Hill, and cause traffic problems in surrounding roads.

Harrow Council is due to decide whether the project should go ahead at a meeting next Wednesday.

Jane Galbraith, a founding member of the group, said: “We encourage those who object to this scheme to go along to the meeting and raise their concerns.”

Dandara claims the scheme fits in with both council and London-wide planning policy.

The campaign group has been fighting several developments in the town centre but took a blow last week when a separate project was pushed through after appeal.

The council originally rejected plans by Parkridge Developments for Neptune Point, a nine-storey tower block due to be built in Pinner Road, but the decision was reversed by a planning inspector.

Mrs Galbraith said: “I don't know that we ever had that much chance but we are disappointed the inspector appeared to accept all of the arguments of the developer but none of the council's and none by the Campaign for a Better Harrow Environment.

“It's going to impact on views of the hill. At the moment you can see sky and green trees, but when it is built we will just see an ugly block of flats.”

Dandara has already vowed to appeal if its Post Office site plans are rejected.

Parkridge Developments were unavailable for comment.
