THE recent film version of Scooby Doo had a computer generated Scooby cowering at the sight of evil fairground owners covered in white sheets so this should be one computer game that resembles its cinematic inspiration.

Scooby-Doo is a traditional platform game with a bit of 3D thrown in here and there.

There are the usual game-play tactics, such as jumping, swinging, bashing and smashing, most of which can be learnt from the training area which is accessible as soon as you load the game, or can be picked up as you make your way through the 12 puzzle-laden levels.

The game starts like the TV shows of the 70's with the formidable, unforgettable theme tune and Fred, Velma, Daphne, Shaggy and Scooby pulling up at a mansion that is supposedly haunted.

The howling wolves and screeching creatures of the night add to the evil atmosphere.

Outside a young girlfriend of Daphne's is waiting to explain the plot, of how her special scientist uncle is being affected by the strange happenings.

Then, as the gang of five decides to explore for clues, all but Scooby disappear and it's left up to you as Scooby to save the day.

The graphics are plain and simple, not unlike the Mensa reject Great Dane himself, and the levels aren't that big or hard to complete.

All in all, Scooby Doo is a fun game with corny jokes and canned laughter.

Children and adults who get all nostalgic at talk of "Scooby snacks" and "Zoinks" will love it.

Overall: 4/5
