I was interested to read the letter in the Harrow Times by A and J Salmon on the Government's decision to build polyclinics run by private firms to run and replace doctors' surgeries (Thursday, June 5). If we allow this to take place it will be the end of the NHS.
I am old enough to remember when my parents could not afford to pay for a doctor and had to ask the local chemist for advice when we were ill.
Prime Minister Clement Atlee's Government brought in the NHS when we were up to our ears in debt at the end of the Second World War, and it was the envy of the world.
I believe these polyclinics are the beginning of the end of our NHS on its 60th anniversary. We must not let this happen and should support the campaign to stop it happening.
