A LONG serving councillor has been elected as the new leader of the Labour group on Harrow Council.
Councillor Bill Stephenson was elected at the Annual General Meeting of the Labour group on Monday, June 16.
He will replace Councillor Navin Shah, who has stepped down to concentrate on his new role as Brent and Harrow representative on the London Assembly.
Cllr Stephenson is a ward councillor for Headstone South, and served in the Labour leadership of Harrow Council between 2002 and 2006 as portfolio holder for education and lifelong learning.
He served in the Royal Air Force between 1957 and 1959, and is a retired senior lecturer in maths at the University College London.
Councillor Phillip O'Dell, who represents Wealdstone, has taken over as deputy leader of the Labour group, which is currently in opposition.
