PLANS to build a supermarket and a block of flats on the site of a Stanmore library and car park have been slammed by a residents' group.
Spenhill, the building arm of Tesco, recently published plans for a new branch of the food store in Stanmore Hill, and is currently looking at feedback from a three-day public consultation.
Jacqueline Raynaud, of Elm Park Residents' Association, said she thought the proposals would make existing traffic and parking problems worse.
She said: "This proposal is not the regeneration of a run down part of Stanmore as Tesco is suggesting.
"There's a library which perhaps could do with re-doing but apart from that it's not a run down area. We already have two large stores, Sainsbury's and Lidl and we don't want another supermarket.
"It's going to bring in more people and we're struggling enough as it is. They are not doing it for our benefit."
If the proposals go ahead unchanged they will force the relocation of Stanmore Library, which is owned by the company but run by Harrow Council.
They also include plans for 65 flats, each with between one and three bedrooms.
