A bus stop was destroyed at a car crash hotspot that had several incidents recorded within the last two months.

Images have shown that a bus stop post, bollards, newly planted trees and walls outside a house were among the items recently damaged in Watford Road crashes near John Lyon roundabout.

Pareet Shah, the chair for Sudbury Court Residents Association (SCRA), says there has been a “relatively sudden increase in crashes” at the spot within September and October – and believes that some may not even have been reported.

Mr Shah said a crash on September 25 was the second within several days.

It resulted in the Sudbury Court Road (stop J) post knocked to the floor, and bollards pulled out of the concrete.

Another video recorded at night shows a van driver striking two bollards and driving off.

In October, one crash resulted in the damage of a front wall outside a house.

Mr Shah said it was difficult to clarify whether these crashes are a “blip” or “more symptomatic of change”.

He said: “This road is quite dangerous, it’s quite a wide straight road, it has a high speed limit, it’s not particularly safe when you cycle. It’s a really hostile road.

“If someone was walking there, they could have been probably seriously injured or killed. It’s definitely a concern.”

Mr Shah, who is the chair of the Brent Cycling Campaign, said he fears “it’s going to get worse” due to proposed large residential developments near Northwick Park.

Ward councillors have agreed to meet with Mr Shah to discuss his concerns.

A Brent Council spokesperson said: “The council is committed to making our streets safer for all road users.

“We regularly review the collision data that is available to identify trends and prioritise road safety measures.

“This area has had new road traffic measures in the last few years to improve safety.”
