A fundraiser has launched for a popular Harrow Borough FC midfielder who is suffering a serious “career threatening” injury.

Dave Taylor, aged 27, broke his kneecap in three places during the game with Hartley Wintney last Tuesday (August 17).

Now he faces a long period away from a non-league game, after just returning from another serious injury that kept him away from playing for nine months prior to his latest injury.

Working as a self-employed builder, Mr Taylor will most likely face a loss of income as he will not be able to work due to the severity of the injury.

Worried about the welfare of Mr Taylor and his financial situation, a Just Giving page was set up by Harrow Borough boss Steve Baker.

In the fundraising page, he said: “Not only has Dave been a fantastic servant to Harrow Borough he has also represented Hanwell Town, North Greenford and played a big part in helping Chertsey Town win the FA Vase recently.

“Anyone who has played with or watched Dave will know what a top lad he is and that he gives 100 per cent every time he pulls the shirt on.

“It’s time for everyone to give him something back now.”

Since setting up the page, half of the £5,000 target was achieved in just two days, and currently nearly £4,000 have donated.

Talking to the Non League Football Paper, Mr Baker said: “A lot of people from the club and who know him have donated, but there’s also been people who don’t watch Harrow or know Dave. We’ve had a Newcastle fan, a Chesham United fan, his previous club Hanwell Town have made a generous donation.

“He’s probably not going to be able to work for two or three months. Mentally it’s going to be as tough as it is physically and we just want to help him out as much as we can.”
