A proposed major housing development by the Grand Union Canal is set to increase by 320 homes after getting the green light from Brent Council.

Its planning committee approved changes to the scheme at Northfields, in Beresford Avenue, at a meeting yesterday (Wednesday, February 10).

The new proposals will see the number of homes at the site go up by roughly 10 per cent, with 3,350 units making up the wider development.

Brent Council officers noted this will result in height increases across some buildings, but there have been some tweaks to the design to improve the skyline and the amount of daylight offered to residents.

And they explained that, in their opinion, there would be “no worsening impact” on neighbouring properties as a result of these changes.

The proposals were unanimously approved by the planning committee, which agreed with the recommendations put forward by officers.

The overall project will include demolition of the existing site, with 2038 set as a target completion date following phased construction.

Previous concerns raised by objectors to the proposals relate to the impact on traffic in the surrounding area and the effect the buildings will have on neighbouring properties.

However, those in support of the scheme have described it as a good use of underutilised space.
