There are plans to introduce 20mph speed limits and other traffic calming measures in several roads in Harrow.

The proposals for the new limits and speed cushions are outlined in a notice from Harrow Council published in this week’s Harrow Times.

If the order is approved, the 20mph limits are set to be introduced in Astall Close; Baslow Close; Charlbury Avenue; Craigwell Close; Craigwell Drive; Derby Avenue; part of Du Cros Drive; Enderley Close; Enderley Road; Morrison Avenue; Pickwick Place; Roxborough Avenue; Roxborough Park; Sandymount Avenue; Sefton Avenue; Stanhope Avenue; Stox Mead; Weald Lane; Westfield Drive; Westfield Gardens.

The speed cushions are planned for sections of the following roads: Charlbury Avenue; Craigwell Close; Craigwell Drive; Enderley Road; Merrion Avenue; Roxborough Avenue; Roxborough Park; Sandymount Avenue; Sefton Avenue; Stanhope Avenue; Weald Lane; Westfield Drive; Westfield Gardens.

Meanwhile, traffic is set to be prevented from using several roads in Harrow due to roadworks from next week.

The proposals will temporarily close parts of Sussex Road, Rutland Road, Oxford Road and Dorset Road due to gas works, while utility works will mean vehicles are prevented from using Gordon Avenue for a planned two-day period next week.

The order for the temporary closures for the gas works is due to come into force at 8am on Monday and will remain in effect until April 19. However, it is anticipated the work should be completed by February 19.

During such times when signs are in place vehicles will be prevented from exiting the following junctions:

Sussex Road, between its junctions with Rutland Road and Oxford Road.

Rutland Road, between a point opposite the northern boundary of No. 58 Rutland Road and its junction with Sussex Road.

Oxford Road, between a point opposite the northern boundary of No. 57 Oxford Road and its junction with Sussex Road.

Dorset Road, between a point opposite with the eastern boundary of No. 2 Dorset Road and its junction with Devonshire Road.

The order for the temporary closure of Gordon Avenue is also due to come into force between 9am and 5pm on Monday and will be in effect until April 10. However, any disruption should not last for too long as the work is expected to be completed by Wednesday.

When work is taking place, vehicles will be prevented from entering or exiting Gordon Avenue, the northern arm, between its junction with Old Church Lane and a point opposite the eastern boundary of No. 4 Gordon Avenue, where it meets the southern arm of Gordon Avenue.
