A car park popular with walkers that was shut due to reports of anti-social behaviour has temporarily reopened over the Christmas period.

Harrow Council announced Harrow Viewpoint Car Park, in Old Redding, can be used until January 3 after additional safety measures were put in place.

The car park was closed in September following reports of anti-social behaviour at the site, including cars driving over grassed areas.

Cllr Varsha Parmar, who is responsible for the environment at Harrow Council, explained new materials have been installed to prevent this.

She said: “I am delighted we are able to reopen the car park for a limited time over the Christmas period.

“This will allow people to enjoy the views and walks around Old Redding.

“We have put in place robust measures to deter the antisocial behaviour and damage that led to the site’s closure and it is great to be able to make it publicly accessible again.”

The council noted there is ongoing work to improve the landscape at the site, though it assured residents the original views will be maintained.

There are also plans to improve the car park through the installation of a new gravel surface, though work has been suspended due to “recent very wet weather” and will resume next year.
