Plans for almost 50 new flats on the site of a former railway siding passed without criticism at a major developments panel.

Harrow councillors on the committee were generally satisfied with a presentation by MML Investments, which outlined plans for land behind Pinner Road, close to West Harrow and Harrow-on-the-Hill Stations.

At present, the intention is to provide 46 flats on the site while maintaining “most of its green character by retaining the quality trees”.

Only 11 of the 46 homes (24 per cent) will be affordable, but, when this is calculated by habitable room, it is compliant with the Mayor of London’s targets.

MML explained that there are currently plans to provide up to 19 on-site car parking spaces, which was deemed “appropriate” for the scheme by council officers given its proximity to Harrow town centre.

Cllr Stephen Greek, who represents Harrow Weald ward, said it was a shame there was no scope for houses at the site, but he appreciated the issues this could cause in terms of footprint.

He called for developers to consider maximising the number of larger, family-sized units before it is put to the planning committee, which is likely to be next year.

A public consultation on the proposals, which will be held virtually, is scheduled to get underway in December.
