A HARROW dinner lady has brought old fashioned games to the internet generation at a local school.

Jackie Harris, 47, who works at Weald Middle School, in Robin Hood Drive, Harrow, has been teaching jacks and two-balls to pupils in years 4, 5 and 6 since June.

Mrs Harris said: "Kids are growing up too fast in this day and age and it is nice to have a bit of old fashioned entertainment.

"I just brought in a box of jacks and some two-balls sets to see if any of the children wanted to play. I have gone into a big production line now and the children are all asking me for their own sets."

"They call it Fat Mumma Jack's club but that is just a nickname, I'm not really fat."

Suraj Patel, 9, of White Gate Gardens, has been learning jacks since the beginning of term.

He said: "It is really fun to do because you can beat your friends. I sometimes play with my brothers and sisters as well.

"Jackie's really fun and she is really good at both games."

Tilly Allen, 9, of Bishops Ken Road, Harrow, said: "I like two-balls. It is fun because even if you drop them it doesn't matter, because the balls just jump back up into your hands.

"I think kids play too many computer games."

Lewis Campbell, 9, of Fisher Road, plays both two-balls and jacks.

He said: "It is good because we can learn sight skills and it is good for hand-eye co-ordination."

Michael Curtin, the school's headteacher, supports Jackie's project.

He said: "It is great. Anything that keeps the children peacefully occupied during their lunch hour is a good thing."

Two-balls is played by throwing two balls against a wall simultaneously and trying to perform a trick before catching them both on the rebound.

In jacks, players scatter the metal jacks, throw a ball in the air and attempt to pick a number of jacks up before catching the ball on its way down.
