Five local authorities will work together on a joint strategic plan that aims to tackle housing targets and transport infrastructure.
The South West Hertfordshire Partnership includes Watford Borough Council, Hertsmere Borough Council, St Albans District Council, Three Rivers District Council and Dacorum Borough Council.
Elected Mayor Peter Taylor said “We are working with other councils so that we have a better chance of managing the government’s increased housing targets for our town.
“One of my key priorities is to improve our infrastructure to make sure that we can manage our growth.
“That means a new cycle hire scheme, a new bus service as well council homes for local families who need them the most.”
Each council will still be responsible for their own Local Plan, but an overarching joint strategic plan based on shared priorities and challenges will be developed by the partners.
The proposed joint strategic plan was given the go ahead at a Watford Borough Council cabinet meeting earlier yesterday.
