Harrow Council is calling on contractors hoping to secure its next highways contract to register their interest.
The council’s current agreement with Kiers Highways Services runs until the end of March 2019 and, following a previous extension, will not be renewed.
Its cabinet agreed to re-procure a highways contract in February, noting that it will offer continuity and give the authority the “opportunities to secure the best value”.
The contract, which will initially run for five years, is valued at £110 million. There will also be an option to extend the term by two years, at the council’s discretion.
The highways maintenance report presented to cabinet explained that the top five bidders would be selected and invited to submit final bids.
This approach, as opposed to a negotiation, was recommended given the market’s stability and the time it would save.
A final decision will be made by Paul Walker, Harrow Council’s corporate director for community, following consultation with Cllr Varsha Parmar and Cllr Adam Swersky, responsible for the environment and finance at Harrow Council, respectively.
Prospective bidders have until November 9 to register their interest.
