A government body that manages the transport system in the capital has announced plans to build more than 750 new homes by two tube stations.

Transport for London said on March 26 it would develop land surrounding Harrow-on-the-Hill tube station proving 600 new properties, 35 per cent of which would be “affordable”.

On the same day, TfL also announced plans to build 150 new homes around Northwood tube station with the same number of affordable homes available.

At both sites TfL will provide step-free access in places, and ensure new retail and commercial properties are installed.

Transport for London is working with Triangle London Developments, a consortium between Notting Hill Housing, and U+I, a property regeneration company, to bring about both developments launched to the Property Partnerships Framework last year.

Leader of Harrow Council, Cllr Sachin Shah, said: “I'm delighted TfL are joining us in building a better Harrow.

“Step-free access at Harrow-on-the-Hill will be life-changing for so many of our residents and help open up our town centre too.

“Affordable homes for Harrow people on the site are the icing on the cake.”

Director of commercial development at TfL, Graeme Craig, said their development programme will transform neighbourhoods, creating thousands of jobs and generate millions of pounds for transport networks.

The 2.5 acre Harrow-on-the-Hill station is in zone 5 and is served by the Metropolitan line. Northwood is in zone 6 and covers around 4.7 acres.

TfL will carry out a public consultation later this year ahead of submitting planning applications.
