TEENAGE pregnancy rates in Brent have dropped to their lowest rate in almost 10 years.
Figures provided by the National Teenage Pregnancy Unit show that Brent dropped below the most recent 43.5 London average for teen pregnancies and is now in a lower rated category.
Councillor Bob Wharton, lead member for children and families, said: "Early pregnancy restricts the life chances of a young woman. The decline in the rate of teenage pregnancy in Brent is therefore welcome. We cannot, however, be complacent."
Christine Chapman, Brent Council's young people's sexual health and advice support manager, said: "We are very pleased by the latest results as there are a number of groups who work hard to support local young people by offering advice, contraception and help so that they can make informed decisions about their health."
