GOLFERS from Stanmore were the longest swingers in town after a marathon round of golf for charity.

Richard Freeman, Steve Holman, Shabbir Kasmani and James Reynolds chipped, putted, and drove their way down the fairways of Stanmore Golf Club as part in the Longest Day Golf event on Monday.

They played four rounds of the course, 72 holes in total, and raised more than £3,300 for the Macmillan Cancer Support charity.

Richard Freeman, one of the players, said: "Playing 72 holes in just one day was a real challenge and whilst we were all shattered by the end of it, we were also elated to have raised such a large amount.

"We had a great day though and were thrilled to be doing our bit for such a worthy cause."

Macmillan is a charity that provides care and support for people who are dealing with cancer. It hopes to raise more than £275,000 nationally from the Longest Day event.
